The partial decay, called spalting, gives the wood dark contrasting lines and streaks where fungus has begun to attack the wood. The wood was turned on a lathe to create the unique beautiful looking bowl and then finished with shellac and hand polished with four coats of black bison clear polish to bring about the beautiful shiny look and smooth feel.
