Health, Safety & Environmental Policy Statement

The Chief Administrator of WoodCraft-Co LTD recognises the fact that health & safety has positive benefits to The Company, and it is the Policy of WoodCraft-Co LTD to pursue progressive improvements in health and safety for its staff.  Our main responsibility is for reducing risks affected by our work activities ensuring the health & safety of workers and members of the public. WoodCraft-Co LTD accepts its responsibilities for the health and safety of those and that of other people who may be affected by its activities. In respect of health and safety matters, we accept that active and practical leadership is a business function and that a concerted approach must be adopted to continually progress and adapt to changes.  Management and staff who authorise work to be carried out are responsible for ensuring that satisfactory health, safety, and welfare arrangements are always maintained.

The Company recognises that safety is the responsibility of everyone within the organisation and is not just a function of management.  WoodCraft-Co LTD values the contribution made by its employees and seeks to conduct its activities in a manner that is committed to their health, safety, and well-being.  The Company shall consult with its employees, and they must also ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, the provision and maintenance of safe and healthy working conditions, equipment, and systems of work for all employees, and such resources, information, training, and supervision as are needed for these purposes. The Chief Administrator will ensure a health and safety ethos is fully integrated into the management and decision-making processes within the organisation. WoodCraft-Co LTD shall comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work, etc. Act 1974, all other relevant statutory provisions, and recognised Codes of Practice. The standards that will be adopted are those required by law, although the Company will seek to always exceed these, especially where there is a demonstrable benefit.

Visitors, Employees, Contractors, and their employees shall be required to comply with the policy and other relevant statutory requirements when on company premises, sites or carrying out work for the Company. They must co-operate with managers on health and safety matters, not interfere with anything provided to safeguard their health and safety and take reasonable care of their health and safety. Safe systems of work will be adhered to, monitored and all health and safety concerns reported to an appropriate person as soon as is practicable.  It is the responsibility of all staff to ensure they are aware of management health & safety policies and procedures in the workplace and comply with them. It is a legal requirement for all employees to report and/or record certain work-related accidents. Health & safety performance shall be reviewed from time to time, and it is the responsibility of each person to ensure their awareness of new policies and procedures implemented.

The external Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has overall responsibility for enforcing health & safety laws and regulations.  The laws and regulations are strictly enforced.  The Company will investigate any significant health & safety concerns and enforcement action will be taken against individuals where we need to rectify and remedy any failures or breaches made of the Health & Safety Policy.  The overall and final responsibility for internal health and safety is that of the Chief Administrator. Day-to-day responsibility for ensuring this responsibility is put into practice is delegated to the Section Leader and Managers of WoodCraft-Co LTD.

WoodCraft-Co LTD recognises that it has a responsibility to the environment beyond legal and regulatory requirements. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and continually improving our environmental performance as an integral part of our business strategy and operating methods, with regular review points. We will encourage customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders to do the same.

Responsibility

The Chief Administrator of WoodCraft-Co LTD is responsible for ensuring that the environmental policy is implemented. However, all employees have a responsibility in their area to ensure that the aims and objectives of the policy are met.

Policy Aims

We endeavour to:

  • Comply with and exceed all relevant regulatory requirements;
  • Continually improve and monitor environmental performance;
  • Continually improve and reduce environmental impacts;
  • Incorporate environmental factors into business decisions; and
  • Increase employee awareness and training.

Paper

  • We will minimise the use of paper in the office;
  • We will seek to buy recycled and recyclable paper products; and
  • We will reuse and recycle all paper where possible.

Energy and Water

  • We will seek to reduce the amount of energy used as much as possible;
  • Lights and electrical equipment will be switched off when not in use;
  • Heating will be adjusted with energy consumption in mind; and
  • The energy consumption and efficiency of new products will be considered when purchasing.

Office supplies

  • We will evaluate if the need can be met in another way;
  • We will evaluate if renting/sharing is an option before purchasing equipment;
  • We will evaluate the environmental impact of any new products we intend to purchase;
  • We will favour more environmentally friendly and efficient products wherever possible; and
  • We will reuse and recycle everything we can.

 Transportation

  • We will reduce the need to travel, restricting to necessity trips only;
  • We will promote the use of travel alternatives such as e-mail or video/phone conferencing;
  • We will make additional efforts to accommodate the needs of those using public transport or bicycles; and
  • We will favour ‘green’ vehicles and maintain them rigorously to ensure ongoing efficiency.

Maintenance and Cleaning

  • Cleaning materials used will be as environmentally friendly as possible; and
  • We will only use licensed and appropriate organisations to dispose of waste.

Monitoring and Improvement

  • We will comply with and exceed all relevant regulatory requirements;
  • We will continually improve and monitor environmental performance;
  • We will continually improve and reduce environmental impacts;
  • We will incorporate environmental factors into business decisions;
  • We will increase employee awareness through training; and
  • We will review this policy and any related business issues at our management meetings.

Culture 

  • We will involve staff in the implementation of this policy, for greater commitment and improved performance;
  • We will update this policy at least once annually in consultation with staff and other stakeholders where necessary;
  • We will provide staff with relevant environmental training; and
  • We will work with customers, suppliers, contractors, and sub-contractors to improve their environmental performance.
