Pestle & Mortar 1 – Yew Wood

A beautiful handcrafted pestle and mortar from perhaps among the hardest of all softwood species, Yew is undoubtedly a unique wood species. The set has been created from a branch sourced from Ystradfellte Cemetery in Brecon and is from a tree said to be about 1,000 years old that fell during a storm. The wood was turned on a lathe to create the unique, beautiful items and then finished with shellac (a surface sealing, natural finish that comes from the Lac bug) to bring about the beautiful shiny look and smooth feel. The measurements of the mortar are approximately 8.5cm deep (inside) with a 7cm opening at the top. The pestle is rounded on one end and flat on the other end.
